It’s been quite a few years since I made any music or even picked up a guitar. But, for mostly therapeutic reasons (and having finally cleared the junk out of the spare room), I’m playing again, trying to build some skills back, writing material and making some recordings under a new one-person project.
The style will vary somewhat; however, it’s essentially a hard rock project. Influences include heavy-hitters of 70s rock such as Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Scorpions, and so on, as well as the fictional worlds of Robert E. Howard.
I’m a guy who counts his blessings, but I also count my curses, and one of them is that I can’t sing. Not “I can’t sing to a semi-professional standard” or “I can’t sing very well”: I can’t sing like cats can’t fly airplanes, and I don’t inflict attempts to do so on myself or others. Accordingly, this is an instrumental project only. No lyrics: just use your imagination okay. Besides, while in the past I’ve enjoyed writing lyrics, it’s also nice to not write them: to focus on instrumentation, on improving, and just generally on the vibe, man. This is also a spare room hobby project only, and it’s just me, so there won’t be any live performances.
The project is called Black Stone Raider: check out the YouTube or SoundCloud accounts via the links below and follow if you dig it.
